The primary responsibility of this role, as Principal Scientist, is to Lead and direct the research and development activities on microbial inoculants technology for the rhizobial inoculants business which includes having responsibility for the improvement of seed inoculants performance, stability, and compatibility through effective integration of strain improvement, strain selection, formulation, and application technology and developing differentiated inoculant technologies and products as integrated solutions to enhance crop growth, health and productivity.
Conceive and lead research projects, develop research plans, conduct experiments, and ensure development milestones and phases are on track with timelines and align with business and market strategies
Provide technical support to field testing, regulatory, manufacturing, and marketing that lead to successful submission and launch of new biological products
Lead and direct the scientific activities of the Inoculants Technology team (2-5 direct reports) and develop staff to ensure their performance and growth
Ensure high safety standards and awareness within the area of responsibility, taking into account internal and external policies, regulations, directives, and laws
Present proposed research programs and results to diverse audiences ranging from local technical staff to global business colleague to external partners
Evaluate and report on new opportunities for technology licensing or M&A. Participate in due diligence teams and provide detailed technical assessment to guide business decisions on each opportunity.
Position skills requirement
Ph.D. in microbiology, biological chemistry, or related field with at least 7
years of industrial experience in research and development of biologicals for agricultural applications
Track record in microbial product development and innovation for agriculture, preferably in the areas of inoculants and biopesticides
Demonstrated experience in practical lab microbiology including microbial strain isolation and characterization, biological activity screening, and strain improvement
Must be fluent in Spanish (and English). Familiarity with Latin American culture and previous residence in the region strongly preferred
Experienced scientific leader with proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary R&D projects in a fast-paced environment where commitment and accountability are essential
Excellent communication skills. Able to effectively summarize and present complex projects and problems orally and in writing
Comfortable and effective in working with experts from a wide range of technical disciplines as well as senior business leaders
Demonstrated ability to communicate, interact, and influence effectively with R&D leaders across functional groups as well as globally
Able to analyze and interpret complex business and scientific periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and government regulations. Comfortable and experienced in reading and assessing patents.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
