DEFINITION Under general direction, performs a diverse range of non-sworn duties in support of Police Department operations; areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to preparing, analyzing and disseminating information relevant to actual and anticipated criminal activity; to increase the effectiveness of patrol and investigative deployment, crime prevention and the apprehension of suspects; to provide professional and technical support to all divisions and assigned areas of responsibility; and to perform related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This journey-level classification is responsible for independently performing technical duties in a non-sworn capacity in support of various law enforcement operations.
Positions at this level exercise judgment and initiative in their assigned tasks, receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives general direction from superior personnel as reflected in the Department organizational chart.
Exercises technical and functional supervision over subordinate personnel and volunteers as reflected in the Department organizational chart Examples of Duties EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - (Illustrative Only) The Davis Police Department is accredited by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).
POST may, from time to time, amend the regulations and standards or adopt new standards relating to the accreditation program.

Collects, compiles, computes, analyzes and summarizes criminal offender, demographic and related data from a wide variety of sources daily to identify and evaluate crime series, trends and patterns.
Prepares, analyzes, and disseminates information relevant to actual and anticipated criminal activity utilizing modern research methods including research design, statistical analysis, trends and patterns, victim and suspect profiling, and other quantitative research.
Applies knowledge of criminal justice system and standard police procedures to determine methodology of collecting and collating data from a variety of sources for analytical use; assists with developing tactical action plans to effectively deploy personnel for problem oriented policing using calls for service and levels of service provided; conducts special research and analytical studies of suspects, incidents and crime patterns; prepares and produces crime data reports and studies.
Works effectively to promote the exchange of information internally within the department; develop and maintain effective liaison with state and local law enforcement agencies to exchange intelligence information.
Serves as a spokesperson for the Department at a variety of community events, meetings, and other public relations activities; cultivates good community relations by appearing before civic, fraternal, and other community groups Researches and responds to complaints and requests for information regarding crime; may attend committee meetings providing technical information; maintains systems to ensure accountability and controls.
Prepares evidence for use in court cases.
Assist in the preparation of grants, and quarterly and annual reports Works with various social media and information sharing platforms.
Assists in the performance of special investigative and crime prevention duties as required; schedules and implements crime prevention and educational programs.
Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions; reviews publications and materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in law enforcement.
Releases information to the public in accordance with Department policy.
Oversees the use and care of equipment.
Observes and complies with all Department and City safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
May serve in a variety of specialized and/or collateral assignments subject to Department need.

Education and Experience A combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Education:
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in criminal justice, public administration, political science, business administration, computer science, statistics, or a related field.
Experience:
Demonstrated experience producing and working with data; Experience producing technical reports and other analytical products; Public speaking and presenting skills are highly desirable.
Certificate in Crime and Intelligence Analysis Program is highly desirable.
Possession of POST Certificates in:
Introduction to Crime Analysis, Advanced Concepts in Crime Analysis, and/or Criminal Intelligence are highly desirable.
License and Certifications:
Possession of a valid California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.
Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months from date of appointment, valid California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) Certification, to be maintained throughout employment.

The most qualified applicants will be invited to an oral board interview.
Those who pass the initial interview will be invited to a second interview where they will be asked to review and analyze information that is provided and then prepare a written analysis and oral presentation based on their analysis.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
